Join our horticulturist, friends, and neighbors on Tuesdays and Fridays in Wyck’s historic home farm for short lessons, hands-on experience, and a share of fresh produce when you volunteer! No registration required!

Permanent Exhibition: Deeply Rooted, Ever Changing: 300 Years in Germantown

A permanent exhibition on display at the Historic Germantown Visitor Center, Deeply Rooted, Ever Changing: 300 Years in Germantown, traces more than three centuries of transformation, highlighting the evolution of Germantown from its founding through the abolitionist movement, the Industrial Revolution, and the Civil Rights Movement. Artifacts on display include decorative arts, advertisements, posters, household items, a rare 1730s rooster-shaped weather vane from the German Reformed Church in Market Square, and a surveyor’s compass designed by American astrologer and mathematician, David Rittenhouse. Drawing from the Germantown Historical Society’s collections, the exhibition provides a window into the everyday lives, achievements, and challenges of the communities that called Germantown home.

Rotating Exhibition: Rebellion and Remembrance in Freedom’s Backyard |July 9 – December 1 2026

Serving as the Visitor Center’s first rotating exhibition, Rebellion and Remembrance in Freedom’s Backyard examines Germantown’s unique role in the American Revolution and how the events of that era helped shape the neighborhood’s identity for generations. Just six miles from Independence Hall, Germantown stood at the crossroads of revolutionary change. Home to descendants of German and British colonists, enslaved and free Africans, and Native peoples, the neighborhood witnessed the violence of war firsthand while also serving as a place where individuals sought and asserted their freedom. Featuring Revolutionary-era artifacts and documents, the exhibition explores how memories of battle, resistance, and liberation helped establish Germantown’s lasting reputation as “Freedom’s Backyard.” Among the exhibition’s highlights is a section of the historic Johnson House fence damaged during the Battle of Germantown, accompanied by a video simulation illustrating how the damage occurred during the conflict. Also debuting on July 9, the exhibition will remain on view through December 1, 2027.

The Philadelphia Honey Festival at Wyck is our sweet finish to the summer season! Hosted in partnership with the Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild, the festival offers a variety of activities that celebrate and educate our pollinators. This always-popular event includes honey tastings, extractions, presentations, local craft vendors, a mead and beer garden, children's activities, and much more!

Follow in the soldiers’ steps as we explore what happened during and after the Battle of Germantown. The program is offered in partnership with the Concord School and Upper Burying Ground. The tour will take approximately an hour and a half and cover one mile. There will be times to stop and sit during the walk. Please wear appropriate footwear and bring a drink if needed.

All tours are $20, $10 for National Trust and Friends of Cliveden members, and residents of 19119 and 19144.

Tours available from 12pm to 4pm, beginning on the hour. The last tour of the day is at 3pm. Tours begin in the Cliveden Barn, located at 98 E. Cliveden Street, 19119. Each tour is a one hour experience.

"An Experienced Cook" will be presented by Mercy Ingraham on Saturday, September 19th at 10:00 am. She will describe her work with a group of historic cooks and their interpretations of the receipts of Mrs. Malinda Russell, who published the first cookbook by an African American in this country in 1866. A light lunch sampling of her receipts will follow the presentation.

About Mercy Ingraham Mercy Ingraham is one of the founding members of the Historic Foodways Society of the Delaware Valley. She has studied and taught open hearth cooking and historic foodways for the past 30 years, and is now retired.

Set against the backdrop of Johnson House's historic garden, guests will enjoy an unforgettable evening of live jazz, fine food and drink, and community connection.

Fall migration is heating up and birds are all over the city! Join TB Wildlife Photography LLC and fellow bird lovers at Hood Cemetery (4901 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19144) for a Little Sit, which is stationary birding with a more social twist. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about common bird species in their own neighborhood, practice identifying birds using a field guide, learn to use binoculars, and hopefully see some migrant birds along the way. Some seating will be available, but you are welcome to bring your own lawn chair.

Binoculars provided by Nocs Provisions will be available for use at a first-come-first-served basis.

Join Wyck's curator for a special behind the scenes look at some of the rarest objects in the collection.

Together, we'll explore unique historic glass pieces in the Wyck collection and dive deep into Wyck's connections to historic glassmaking.

The PA Flax Project is back at the Wyck Historic House and Garden to show you how the flax crop becomes spinnable fiber!

Shortly after the city of Philadelphia’s founding in 1682, it became known for its textile manufacturing industry - particularly in the Germantown area. That being said, manufacturing was still mostly small scale at the time, accomplished primarily by growing an acre or two of fiber flax in any one location and hand-processing at home and/or in small stores. At the same time as this industry boom, the Wyck House was being built and developed. There is evidence that during the residential years of this house, the families within it took part in the Germantown culture of growing and processing fiber flax in order to make household goods such as hand towels, undergarments, and more.

The PA Flax Project has been hosting hand processing events at the historic Wyck house since 2022, and we will be back this fall to continue the centuries-long tradition of turning fiber flax from crop to spinnable fiber on their grounds.
