EVENT DETAILS
In this workshop, we will be learning about the plant wisdoms of the Rose in the beautiful Wyck gardens and making a Rose-based herbal remedy together that participants will take home with them! The medicine of the Rose (Hebrew: Shoshana, Arabic: Warde/Al-warde) is home to many cultures, practices and traditions. Roses are a well-rounded herbal remedy, supporting and uplifting various parts of the body/mind/soul. Over the years, Maz has deepened their connection to Roses and hopes that participants will develop a connection to this loving and powerful plant as well.
Throughout this workshop, Mazal will guide participants in somatic practices and ritual, share Rose folk stories and recipes, and will share various ways to work with Roses both through ritual and internal herbal remedies. Maz will center the Rose teachings in their Arab and Jewish lineages, as well as will invite participants to share the wisdoms of Roses in their lives. It will be a beautiful summer day filled with Rose teachings, community connection, medicine making and herbal joy!
Mazal/Maz (they/them/theirs) is a queer and trans/non-binary artist, arab/mizrahi jew, community herbalist, Drama Therapist, and organizer. Maz utilizes imagination, play, and ritual as tools for liberation, healing and connection. Their herbal practices and study merges SWANA ancestral herbal medicine, Jewish mysticism and Torah, intuitive herbalism, and psychology. They currently offer herbal care sessions, workshops, and make their own remedies through their home apothecary, B'samim Apothecary.
