Get ready for a Free… Historic Germantown Photo Walk as we partner with local arts studio Ubuntu Fine Arts to guide attendees through the greenspaces of 5 sites within our Northwest Philadelphia Network. Historic Germantown is proud to preserve over 18 greenspaces within the community, with a network of sites celebrating History. Nature and Culture! With each site as a point of inspiration and backdrop to the imagination of the photographers, participants have the opportunity to reclaim Historic Germantown as a canvas for Black creativity, while also continuing the city’s rich legacy of contemporary Photography
Two stops on the path, Johnson House and the Black Writers Museum are keepers of Philadelphia’s Underground Railroad network and offer an abundance of Black literary culture, and abolition storytelling respectively.

Founded in 2021 by Steven CW Taylor, Ubuntu Fine Art is the first Black-owned, single artist fine art photography gallery in the US. Rooted in the South African term “ubuntu”, meaning universal connection through sharing, the gallery seeks to bring people together and invite the community to travel the world through photography. A native of Germantown, Taylor has deep pride in his neighborhood and through his gallery and the upcoming photowalk, asserts that it is indeed the photography capital of the US.
