Annual Women’s History Month Lecture

Join scholar Em Dombrovskaya as they explore the many intersections of gender, labor, and material culture in the rich history of Philadelphia's Eastern State Penitentiary. Dombrovskaya will also address Wyck's early connections to the Penitentiary through the lenses of reformer Reuben Haines III and architect William Strickland in this year's Wyck Women's History Month Lecture. After the talk, there will be time for participants to ask questions and engage with the speaker. About the Speaker: Em Dombrovskaya is the Suzanne Andrée Curatorial Fellow in Prints and Drawings at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. They are a graduate of the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture at the University of Delaware and the history of art program at Haverford College. Em has previously worked in collections at the Museum of Russian Art in Minneapolis, MN; in the archives of the Woody Guthrie Center in Tulsa, OK; in publications at Fringe Arts and the Fabric Workshop and Museum; and an editorial assistant focusing on books in language and literacy at Routledge. Their innovative work engages with interdisciplinary theories of object study and interpretation across disparate media and geographies.
