The Bondwoman’s Narrative by Hannah Crafts

The Bondwoman’s Narrative is the fictionalized autobiography of Hannah Bond, written under the pseudonym of Hannah Crafts. Her manuscript was not authenticated and published until 2002. Written sometime between 1853 and 1861, it is likely the first novel written by a Black woman and the only known novel written by a fugitive slave woman.
