J. Gordon Baugh Jr’s, A Souvenir of Germantown, published in 1913 in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, documented the economic and social impact of Germantown’s robust Black business and civic community. This talk will explore the many places, organizations, and people depicted in this unique publication including those sites still standing today, as well as the ways in which this document can help us better understand contemporary Germantown.
